The Client – Biotech Lab Equipment Manufactuer
RightHand's client is developing a patent pending platform for single molecule identification and digital quantification. The system uniquely barcodes individual target molecules, scans them and delivers a literal inventory of target molecules in the biological sample. This biotechnology application is used by medical professionals and scientists for laboratory analysis of molecules.
One core component of the technology includes a "scanner", which takes images of bound reporter codes and processes the images providing a simple count for each gene and control.

XPe, Motherboard Drivers, Visual Studio 2005, Touch Panel, Hardware Integration, Dual Processors – each one having Dual Core Processors.
Task – Provide Windows XP Embedded Expertise to Integrate Platform, Applications, Drivers and Hardware
Solution - Produce A Master Embedded Image
As with most embedded images, a small file size is desired. RightHand Engineers put together a compact master image for the application.
Pulling together the master image involved:
- Configuring the embedded image to contain the essential applications and drivers, customized to the hardware platform.
- Confirming all vendor drivers worked including the touch panel driver.
- Bypassing Windows-like features to have the device boot directly to the application.
- Developing a custom windows service to the XP image to work with another peripheral off of USB.
Utilizing networking monitoring tools and utilities to analyze executables statically or at run time helped RightHand Engineers to debug any issues along the way.
Documentation for Win XPe specific to their hardware was provided to the client.
The project phase concluded with training on cloning the master image for production.
